Peter Lehmann Hill and Valley Tempranillo 2022

Barossa Valley, South Australia.  This is best value OZ Tempranillo we have tasted. The colour is typically deep, leading to a bouquet of dark plum and cherry and finishing with characteristically firm, chalky tannins. This is a full bodied red wine suited to rustic, red meat dishes and it certainly has the potential to age beautifully in the bottle for a number of years...

Pierre Amadieu Gigondas ‘Le Pas de L’Aigle’ 2019

Rhone Valley, France. Well this is a bold, juicy mass of Grenache. Dark cherry and plum, liquorice, saucy spice, almost a violet perfume too. Full bodied, fleshy and rich with a ripe mass of tannin, while stone and dried herb cinches it in. Finishes long and succulent, with a wisp of smoke in the aftertaste. Still looking young and vigorous, and likely even better in a few years...

Pierre Amadieu Gigondas 'Romane-Machotte' 2021

Rhone Valley, France. Notes of garrigues & red fruits, along with a round and tasty struture
Plum marmalade, vanilla and blackcurrant highlight the finesse of the soft tannins. On the finish, scents of thyme, laurel and rosemary reveal an original and aromatic bouquet ending on a spicy persistency (black pepper). Appreciate on a beef stew with a Rosemary blade, try the match with a vanilla ice cream with its strawberry purée. Drink it now or within the next 5 years...

Pierro Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot 'LTCF' 2020

Margaret River, Western Australia.  The 2019 Pierro LTCf has lively fragrances, rich and concentrated blackcurrant, dark cherry and mulberry flavours, a pleasing ripeness, an elegance and tightness on the mid-palate, fleshy, velvety texture, and gentle, fine, harmonious tannins. While this will be immensely appealing as a young red, it could be cellared in the short term...

Pierro Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot 2020

Margaret River, Western Australia. The last few vintages have shown just how much the Pierro reds have benefited from the estate's mature vines (30 years old in 2015). As well as this, Mike Peterkin has been experimenting with tannin management andworking to encourage the development of flavour compounds in grapes early in the season and conserving  them in the heat of summer. He believes that the combination of these two factors have enabled Pierro to achieve fully ripe tannins without excessive alcohols and so produce reds that have 'finesse and elegance with full flavour'.

The components of the wine –  83.9% Cabernet Sauvignon, 11.4% Merlot, 3.8 % Cabernet Franc, and0.8% Petit Verdot and 0.1% Malbec– are identified in the vineyard and monitored in the barrel...
