Lake Hayes, Central Otago

The name might be different, but the approach is the same. As with its renowned sibling Amisfield, Lake Hayes wines reflect the land they’re grown from, with a style of winemaking that allows the fruit to express itself from vintage to vintage. The grapes for Lake Hayes come from some of the best growing areas in Central Otago.

Lake Hayes wines are made in an early drinking style with a fresh, fruity appeal. They are young and lively, yet balanced and sophisticated. Perfect for a picnic in summer or dinner by the fire in winter.

VINEYARD DESIGNATION: Lake Hayes Vineyard with Amisfield Pisa Estate Blocks 3 and 4. CLONE: 2 - 15, 7A, 40A, 52B

WINEMAKING
The grapes were picked and fermented cool using selected yeasts that express vibrant white stone fruit aromatics. Fermentation was stopped when we felt the acid, sugar and flavour balance was ideal. The wine was then matured on light fluffy lees until bottling

WINE STYLE
A succulent, dry, aromatic and instantly enticing Pinot Gris with crisp and fresh flavours balanced by subtle fruit sweetness.

TASTING NOTES

HARVEST NOTES
Starting with bud burst in October our ‘phenology’ chart indicated a spurt of growth, more advanced than ever in our 10 years of recording. Flowering time at Christmas was mild and gentle with some rain before and after, but dry over the critical few days allowing a high degree of pollination to set a superb crop. Ripening was just as fin e, hardly any rain and just enough breeze to keep the bunches dry. Harvesting by hand started 2 weeks earlier than the previous year.
