2023 Bois du Chene Saumur blanc
Just 400 bottles produced from this tiny holding of the hill of Brézé from Chenin Blanc vines planted in 1960. Fermented in one new 300 litre barrel and aged for 18 months on fine lees with no SO2 added until bottling. Further ageing in bottle before release resulting in a wine of great depth and dimension. Lovely volume and complexity in the mouth, finishing with terrific concentration of flavour, vibrant acidity and excellent length. Already mimicking a Premier Cru Burgundy, it will continue to develop over many years in the cellar. A triumph, pure and simple. Bottled unfined with a light filtration.
