Pascal et Nicolas Reverdy Loire Valley, France.
Pascal Reverdy’s domaine is based in the tiny hamlet of Maimbray. Maimbray is located in a valley surrounded by terre blanches Kimmeridgian limestone hills adjacent to Chavignol and Verdigny. From their small cellar they produce one of France’s most highly awarded Sancerres. In recent years Pascal has been joined by his 2 sons, Victorien and Benjamin, apprenticeships at Domaine Rousseau and Romanée-Conti respectively, bringing their experience and talents to the domaine.
The Reverdy’s are highly accomplished viticulturists. They take great pride in their vineyards and they make it clear that the quality of the fruit comes from constant work and attention to every little detail in the vineyard throughout the year. The white Sancerre ‘Terre de Maimbray’ is picked at approximately 13° baumé and shows wonderful concentration of pure Sauvignon Blanc fruit, with chalky mineral flavours adding another dimension.
2022 Sancerre La Grande Rue
New small cuvee made from the oldest vineyard of the estate planted 1936. 100% Sauvignon blanc from 86 year-old vines, hand-picked and sorted, very gentle pneumatic press and fermented in large ovoid oak (from the new and excellent Gonet Lacroix Tonnellerie not far from Sancerre) on fine lees for 11 months. Fabulous depth and complexity yet light on its feet with ample acidity and great line and length. An outstanding new addition to the range made in very small quantities. Very Limited.
The 2022 Sancerre "la Grand Rue” from Domaine Pascal et Nicolas Reverdy is a beautifully complex and refined example of this outstanding Sancerre vintage. The bouquet wafts from the glass in a mix of lime, tart orange, green apple, complex chalky minerality, gentle grassy notes, white lilies and orange blossoms. On the palate the wine is pure, bright and full-bodied, with a lovely core of fruit, excellent transparency and cut, zesty acids and impeccable balance on the long, complex and very classy finish. This is excellent juice! 2024-2032. 92+. John Gilman, View from the Cellar, July 2024
