Cooter & Cooter

In 2012, Kimberley and James Cooterfound their dream vineyard and established Cooter & Cooter. Located on the southern slopes of Whites Valley in McLaren Vale, their 70-acre estate is a tapestry of exceptional grape varieties. The vineyard features Shiraz vines planted in the mid-nineties, offering rich and expressive flavours. It also boasts some beautifully gnarled old vine Grenache from 1960, alongside younger Grenache, Cabernet, and more recent plantings of Mataro and Fiano.

Their dedication to sustainable agriculture guides every aspect of their vineyard management. They strive to minimize environmental impact and resource use and are proud to be certified organic and biodynamic. Additionally, Cooter & Cooter are certified members of Sustainable Winegrowing Australia (SWA), reflecting their commitment to responsible and forward-thinking practices.

WATERVALE RIESLING 2024

Tasting Notes
Freshly squeezed Tahitian lime, lemon rind and a hint of rose petal perfume with a little textural grip on the palate. Picked early to retain loads of natural, crunchy acid. Finishing long with refreshing tart green apple.

Vinification
Sourced from two tiny parcels in prime Riesling country, with its signature red dirt over limestone.

Hand-picked in the cool of the night to help ensure a slow start to fermentation. De-stemmed, then gently pressed, keeping the pressings separate. A cool ferment of 12 degrees was maintained over 16 days.

The two vineyard batches were kept separate until final blending took place.

Left on lees until final filtration prior to bottling.

Vintage Notes
2021 was an exceptional vintage in Clare Valley – South Australia, in general. Milder weather conditions throughout the growing season provided ideal ripening conditions, primarily for quality, but also above average yields.
