Moorooduc Estate
Established in 1981 by Richard and Jill McIntyre, Moorooduc Estate is a small, family run wine business that has developed an enviable reputation for complex and food friendly wines.
Moorooduc Estate offers some of the finest of Mornington Peninsula wines and hand crafted produce available for tasting and purchase at cellar door; terrific food at Jill’s Restaurant and a secluded and exclusive weekend getaway.
Our philosophy in everything we do is to make the most of top quality ingredients. Intensive, hands-on care in the vineyard, with minimal use of chemicals, produces the best possible fruit for our wines. Wild yeast ferments and minimal intervention winemaking, with a nod to traditional Burgundian techniques, allow our wines to express their site specificity, or terroir. Similarly, in the restaurant we aim to source ingredients that are seasonal, local and organic.

Vinification
This 2016 pinot noir is a continuation of the whole bunch ferment story at Moorooduc Estate. The Garden Vineyard, across the hill from us, is owned by the McFall family and has been leased and run by Moorooduc Estate for over ten years. Fruit was hand picked and whole bunches placed directly into the fermenter. The stems were ripe and so added savouriness and structure.
Tasting Notes
Bright garnet in colour, the nose displays beautifully integrated aromas from the whole bunch fermentation. Campari and orange rind combine with roasted meat juices, chopped sage, thyme and rosemary, and some pomegranate tang. We experience more Campari, pomegranate and orange on the palate. The wine has firm and fine tannins, lovely balance and length. Delicious!
Pair to a large plate of perfectly seared frenched lamb cutlets – the Italians call them ‘scottaditti’ – translating as ‘burn your fingers’!
