Te Mata Estate
Te Mata Estate is situated within the Hawkes Bay growing region of New Zealand, in the southern corner of the North Island. Grapes have been grown at Te Mata Estate since 1892 when John Chambers planted the first vintage. The first wine to be produced from the estate was in 1896, establishing Te Mata estate as the first winery in New Zealand to reach one century. The Estate's ownership varied frequently until John and Wendy Buck acquired it in 1978.
The Te Mata Estate vineyard soils were formed by volcanic and seismic activity and are very young and diverse in nature. The vineyards have been planted, and are managed, according to this complex of soil systems. Te Mata Estate grapes are grown close to the winery, so that the hand-harvested fruit may be gently transported over short distances.
The range of temperature and soil types, allied with the rainfall band between 650-850mm, create conditions to produce high quality wines of a classic range akin to those of coastal, central and northern France. Te Mata wines are similar in weight and balance but with unique lifted floral and fruit aromas.
Te Mata winery has been ranked 'Top Winery in New Zealand' evidenced by the consistent quality of the Coleraine and Awatea Cabernet Merlot wines, the Bull Nose Syrah and the Elston Chardonnay.
Vinification
With sauvignon blanc grapes of such quality, minimal winemaking means the finer aromatics and flavours are preserved. At the winery, the grapes were chilled, gently pressed and the juice cold-settled before fermentation in stainless steel tanks.

Aroma
It shimmers with fresh lime, grapefruit, passionfruit and vanilla.
Palate
Full notes of white nectarine, gooseberry and fennel on the palate are balanced by a juicy acidity and a dry, crisp finish that are the signature of this stylish wine. Sippable, sumptuous sauvignon blanc.
Food Matching
Best served chilled, either as a refreshing pre-dinner glass of wine, or with salads, seafood dishes and lightly spiced Asian foods.
Cellaring Potential
Estate Vineyards Sauvignon Blanc 2018 can be enjoyed immediately upon release and will continue to develop in bottle for two years from harvest.
