L.A.S Vino Barrels of Metricup Chardonnay 2024

L.A.S Vino Barrels of Metricup Chardonnay 2024
Margaret River, Western Australia. The wine is pale straw in colour. Subtle, elegant and delicate on the nose with butterscotch, vanilla, apple and stone fruit aromas. In the mouth, the wine is light and delicate with citrus and apple flavours, a mild creaminess and a long, smooth finish. Balance was what we were looking for with this year’s Chardonnay. Balance of fruit, flavour, acidity, aroma and oak. The wine has layers of flavour almost tell a story. It’s light yet structured, it’s elegant yet complex and has this subtlety but length that lingers on and on. The more you look at it, the more it gives...

The aim is to make absolutely delicious, delectable and desirable wines and to discover new flavours in the world of wine. Our mantra is minimal intervention and where possible we aim to work with growers using sustainable vineyard methods. There are approximately 200 dozen of each wine made. We hope you enjoy the wines as much as we enjoyed making them.

2024 Chardonnay
This is Nic Peterkin’s fourth crack at fruit from this certified organic site in Metricup, and by now he knows exactly how to let it shine. It’s Gin Gin clone again, off 24-year-old vines grown on sandy loam over clay. Compared to Wildberry Springs, it’s a different beast - more inland, a touch warmer by day, but those cooling ocean breezes still roll in like clockwork.

Everything was done by hand, of course. Picked, sorted, whole-bunch pressed, then straight into barrel for ferment. Full malo, regular lees stirring, ten months in oak (just a couple of new ones in the mix), and bottled without any funny business - just a light filter.

It’s got a bit more weight and softness than its Wildberry sibling, but still feels fresh and balanced. There’s richness here, sure, but it’s never heavy - more of a slow burn. One of those wines you sip, nod quietly, then realise half the bottle’s gone.
