Peter Lehmann of the Barossa Valley
At Peter Lehmann Wines the art of winemaking goes hand in hand with the many people, stories and wines that make the Barossa famous.
It is now part of Barossa legend that Peter Lehmann established the winery in the late 1970s, to protect the livelihood of growers who were facing financial ruin. To this day over 140 growers, some 5th & 6th generation, supply the winery with fruit from the very best vineyards throughout the Barossa. These amazing grape resources enable Peter Lehmann to make wines for every occasion, each one crafted to deliver on quality.
'Ruediger' Cabernet Sauvignon
Dudley Ruediger is a long-time friend and contemporary of Peter Lehmann. At the height of the vine pull scheme in the late 1980s, Dudley bucked convention and planted cabernet based on the encouragement of his mate PL. Well into his 80s, Dudley still tends the vines alongside son Trevor on one of the most significant vineyards of the "new” Barossa.
The Ruediger vineyard is particularly special as it covers the border of the Light Pass and Ebenezer sub-regions, providing two distinct characteristics of Barossa cabernet in a single vineyard wine.
Tasting Notes
The colour is intense black/red. The bouquet is rich in blackcurrant and violets leading in to a richly flavoured palate showing fine grained tannins and a persistent finish. This is a limited release, single vineyard wine from an excellent year and shows just how unique Barossa Cabernet can be.
