Delatite
Delatite is a small family run winery that was established in 1982 by Robert and Vivienne Ritchie and now run by their son David. Specialising in cool climate wines, especially white aromatics, it is sited on a picturesque rise overlooking the vineyards toward Mt Buller in North-east Victoria.
As custodians of the land since the late nineteenth century, David and Catherine are committed to sustainable agricultural practices and winemaking with integrity. Since 2001 they have followed Biodynamic practices across all areas of vineyard operations and are applying for organic certification.
The Wine
This is the first wine of this style to be made at Delatite - a rich sweet Gewürztraminer loosely modeled on the vendage tardive wines of Alsace. It was picked two weeks later than our Dead Man’s Hill gewurz which has given it greater richness, sweetness, and a fuller palate although this is well balanced with very nice acidity. Our sweetest wine, it’s to be enjoyed with sweet desserts and even very rich pork dishes such as double roasted pork belly.
This style is very much a work in progress here and we would’ve loved to have seen a lot more botrytis in the grapes before we picked – but there’s always next year! (Residual sugar 100 grams per litre)
Reviews
"Modelled on the voluptuous late-picked gewurztraminers of Frances Alsace, this is an intense, sweetly rich and mouth-filling, lemon and spice number that probably only needs a touch more balancing and cleansing acid to be a real stunner. 3 bottles-Very Good."
