Lawson's Dry Hills
The original company vineyard was planted in 1980 by Ross and Barbara Lawson, who launched the Lawson’s Dry Hills label some twelve years later, in 1992. Today, the company’s wines include Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling, Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir and their famous Gewurztraminer, all made from fruit grown in Wairau, Waihopai, Omaka and Awatere Valleys. These different regions and carefully selected vineyard sites provide varying characteristics derived from the different soils and microclimates, giving many options when it comes to blending to that much-anticipated Lawson’s style.

The dedicated bunch of people that make up the small team at Lawson’s Dry Hills are very ‘hands on’, living and breathing every part of the viticultural and winemaking process. They do a lot of talking and tasting before pouring our shared inspiration into every bottle.

The resulting wines offer an authentic expression of the place and the grape variety they are made from together with a certain special something that they believe can only come from passion.

Tasting Notes
The nose is classical Gewürztraminer with rose petal, lychee and musk. Behind these aromas you also find passionfruit, lemon, ginger and coriander seed aromas. The immediate impression on the palate is of great concentration and wonderful balance. The mouthfeel is big and soft with sweet fruit expression on the mid-palate, yet the wine finishes just off-dry. The fruit characters on the nose are also found on the palate with citrus, lychee and floral flavours dominating in the young wine. As the wine develops it will become more expressive on the nose and increasingly complex with age.

Food Match: Enjoy in moderation with Kung Po chicken.

Winemaker: Marcus Wright / Rebecca Wiffen.

Winemakers Notes
Both vineyards were machine harvested and gently pressed with minimal skin contact. The resulting free run juice was fermented in stainless steel tanks with specially selected aromtic yeasts. The pressing from each parcel of fruit were fermented in older Frechn oak barriques(7.5 %) of the total blend) and was allowed to undergo malolactic fermentation.

Viticulture Notes
At the foot of Marlborough's dry Wither Hills, adjacent to our winery the Lawson's and thw Woodward vineyards consistently produce intensely flavoured Gewürztraminer grapes. After flowering both vineyards were shoot thinned and lightly leaf plucked to improve exposure to the sun. Post veraison late bunches were removed to help achieve even ripening. The weather was kind to us and we picked as the flavours reached optimum.
