The Wineseek tasting wash-up

11 May 2016
Thanks to all the taster who made last Wednesdays Wineseek  tasting at The Royal Victorian Society in Melbourne so enjoyable. My thanks also to Vince Pignatelli of Winestock for showing us a very impressive range of wines.
All the tasters commented on just how exciting the following line up was.
Ruggeri Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore 'Quartese' Brut DOCG NV - from the premium growing area for Prosecco, this is one of the great examples and was a great wine to kick of the tasting with.
Tenuta Maccon Pinot Grigio Friuli Grave DOC 2014 - divided the tasters, many did love it as the orders for this wine on the evening showed.
Starborough Sauvignon Blanc 2015 - this wine turned quite a few head’s. The savvy drinkers loved it and many non- savvy drinks thought it fantastic and ordered it!
Lawson’s Dry Hills Gewurztraminer 2014 - I love it a super example of southern hemisphere gewurztraminer however this wine received the least orders from the tasters on the evening.
Xanadu Premium Range Chardonnay 2014 - awesome Margaret River chardonnay that impressed all and will only keep on improving.
Both the pinots were fantastic, the Bellvale Quercus Pinot Noir 2013 is in my opinion the best Bellvale pinot to date and the tasters agreed as far more of this wine was ordered than any of the others. A little more voluptuous than the Warramunda Estate Pinot Noir 2013 which is a superb Yarra Valley pinot, very well received, a little tighter than the Bellvale and with a couple of years in the cellar will only improve.
Tenuta Ulisse Montepulciano d’Abruzzo 2014 - a gorgeous, mouth filling wine that finishes savoury, long and dry that surprised many and opened up beautifully over the course of the evening.
Torzi Matthews Schist Rock Shiraz 2014 - super drinking or short term cellaring, simply scrummy and the taster agreed.
Halls Gap Estate Fallen Giants Vineyard Shiraz 2013 - from old vines, this impressed all and many thought a couple of years salted away will see it develop beautifully.
Castelli Estate Cabernet Sauvignon 2014 - classic cool climate cabernet, a little tight at the moment as all good cabernet is when young, but given some cellar time will be a classic.

All the wines are available to order @ wineseek now.

Cheers,
Michael @ Wineseek
