Krondorf Claret 1971

25 August 2014

Who would have thought that it could be drunk!

A friend pulled this bottle of 1971 Krondorf Claret out of their cellar last week.
I was rather dubious as to its drinking potential to say the least!
I got the job of opening it and passing verdict.
Only slightly ullaged, a couple of cm's down the neck and a cork that came out in pieces.
Poured a splash in to my glass, not corked and fruit on the nose that was rich with Xmas cake aromas.
The palate was amazing, with the flavours of dark Xmas cake unmistakably there on the palate.
We knew this would fade pretty quickly in the glass and it did, but the three of us present all manage to enjoy a glass of history that was lovely drinking before the remainder went to 'God.'
