Alta 'for Elsie' Rose 2011

Alta 'for Elsie' Rose 2011

ALTA
Winemaker Sarah Fletcher, had a very clear vision for Alta from day one. She wanted to showcase South Australia's Adelaide Hills as an outstanding cool climate wine region, selecting specific varieties and handpicking quality fruit. This has allowed her to create fresh, varietal wine styles with depth and obvious regional character.

"My aim is to produce wines from varieties that thrive in the cool climate of the Adelaide Hills, each showing strong varietal character and distinctive regional expression."

Sarah Fletcher, Winemaker

2011 `for Elsie´ Pinot Noir Rosé

Winemakers comments
The 2011 Alta “For Elsie” Rosé is a serious wine. Being sugar dry, It relies heavily on the core "flavours of the Pinot Noir grapes. This vintage, I also added a small portion of barrel fermented wine which has given the wine an added dimension by lifting the aroma and creating a creamy complexity to the palate. This wine represents a classic style of Rose that has been thriving in European countries for years. Sarah Fletcher
Vinification
The clone of Pinot Noir used, MV6, was selected for its depth of varietal "flavour and ability to retain natural acid which adds to the palate structure of the resulting wine. Grapes were monitored closely in the lead up to harvest and were machine harvested in the cool of the night once "avours
reached their optimal maturity. On delivery to the winery, grapes were crushed with open rollers, to avoid excessive phenolic pick up, and must was held cold until desired colour had been reached. The yeast used to ferment the juice, was selected for its ability to highlight existing varietal character and enhance palate structure. Free run and pressings were fermented separately in stainless steel between 12oC and 14 oC. A small portion of free run was fermented in large oak vats and the resulting wine was blended back into the original parcel to add texture and additional
"flavor interest.
Colour
Blushing, autumnal pink.
Aroma
Perfumed strawberries, pink musk, and vanilla cream.
Palate
Fleshy red berry fruits #ll the middle palate, providing depth and sweetness. Subtle oak spice adds intrigue and complexity. The palate is seductively soft, creamy and dry to finish.
