The Wine
A gold medal winner at the 2007 Royal Melbourne Wine Show, it has rich flavours of berries and licorice with dense tannins and classy French and American oak. Hand picked fruit is fermented and steeped on its skins for three weeks before gentle pressing. The result is an ink-black wine of tremendous intensity and power. Built to last a generation, this is Rutherglen Durif as the classic “iron fist in a velvet glove”.
Tasting Note
The colour is bright gold with appealing aromas of luscious, freshly crushed grapes. These sensations are carried through onto the palate. The mouth explodes with a profusion of fresh grape flavours adding a velvety texture to the wine; this results from the grapes being picked late in the season, at full ripeness. A young, fresh and appealing style of sherry.
Suggested Cuisine
With its rich mouth-filling flavours this wine could be sipped on its own or enjoyed with lighter desserts. Serve at room temperature, chilled or with your favourite mixer!
Grape Variety
The wine is made from Muscat of Alexandria. As the name suggests, the variety is thought to have originated in Egypt and spread throughout the Mediterranean by the Romans. In Australia the variety is also known as Muscat Gordo Blanco.
