Zilzie Selection 23 Merlot 2022

Victoria. colour: medium ruby red with plum red hues. aroma: lifted raspberry and soft plum aromas with a background of vanilla oak. palate: a softer, fruit driven wine of dark berries and fruit of the forest flavours, with sweet velvety tannins and structured oak complexity.

winemaking:
The wine was fermented on skins with a neutral yeast strain to maximise fruit and enhance the naturally gentle tannin structure. A small component of the merlot was held on skins for an extended maturation period of 35 days to provide some fine complex grape seed tannin structure. The pressed wine underwent complete malolactic fermentation in predominantly French oak barriques with a smattering of older American oak. Maturation was completed in barriques for up to 12 months prior to final blending, stabilisation and filtering ready for bottling.
