Winery
Cape Jaffa Wines is the first fully certified biodynamic vineyard on the Limestone Coast and Mount Benson's pioneer winery, producing terroir-driven and regionally distinctive wines for over a decade. The Hooper family's passion for wine, food and the outdoors brought them to this region in 1993, and since then winemaking has been enriched by surfing and catching crayfish. Cape Jaffa's first vintage was produced in 1995 and today produces a range of cool climate wines, including quality red wines, white wines and certified biodynamic wines.
The Cape Jaffa range showcases Mount Benson's qualities as a premium wine growing region, with fruit source predominantly from our biodynamic vineyards at Cape Jaffa.
Both our Semillon and sauvignon blanc comes from low yielding vines hand-pruned and carefully managed using biodynamic techniques. 2008 saw a vintage of extremes, with record-breaking temperatures in March proceeded a cooler-than-average February, allowing for gentle ripening. With virtually no rain leading up to vintage, grapes arrived in excellent condition. A hands-on and gentle winemaking process has preserved the exceptional fruit characters from our vineyards in this vintage’s sauvignon blanc. The winemaking was undertaken with a focus on minimal intervention, allowing great regionality and varietal expression.
Tasting Notes
The nose shows attractive hints of lemon, honeydew and grassy characters typical of this classic blend. This zesty dry white exhibits a great sense of minerality, excellent structure and a long lingering finish.
