Margaret River, Western Australia. This blend is a magnificent advertisement for the quality of the white wines produced at Cullen Wines during the 2010 vintage. The fruit for this wine was picked at 9.7 to 12.2˚ Baumé and comprised 66% Sauvignon Blanc and 34% Semillon, with all of the former variety being matured in new French oak for five months.
The attainment of physiological ripeness at lower Baumés than previously, and thus wines with the desired lower alcohol concentration, is attributable to the beneficial effects of biodynamic viticulture. These include better soil structure and moisture retention, a higher organic content of the soil and a greater penetration of oxygen to the roots of the vine.
