Bird in Hand Rielsing 2010

Bird in Hand Rielsing 2010

The Vineyards
In 1997, Andrew Nugent planted vineyards and an olive grove on 100 acres on Bird in Hand Road, Woodside. The road itself was named after the "Bird in Hand" gold mine that operated in the district in the 1850s.

Four hundred metres above sea level, the vineyards face north and boast deep, well drained red earth, formed from metamorphic rock.

To extend the winemaking range available to Bird in Hand, another vineyard in the famous wine-growing region of Clare has been aquired to provide fruit for world class Riesling and Shiraz.

"Our Clare Valley vineyard is producing consistently superb quality fruit" - Andrew Nugent.

CLARE VALLEY

The 2010 vintage again highlighted the trademark lime and mineral notes from our family vineyard in the Clare Valley.

Handpicked fruit was whole bunch pressed before undergoing a long, cool fermentation to capture the purity and integrity of the estate grown fruit and to capture the abundant lime, citrus and honeysuckle aromas.

The palate mirrors the aromas and provides bright, crisp acidity typical in Clare, ensuring length and structure.  An elegant and lively wine that cans either be appreciated young or carefully cellared.
