Wine tasting highlights

The Wineseek tasting in Melbourne at the end of February was wonderful evening.
A line up of 12 great wines was tasted.
Dalwhinnie Shiraz 2010, Central Victoria – super shiraz from a great vintage in the area.
Sanguine Estate Shiraz 2010 Heathcote Central Victoria – as above, outstanding!
Henry’s Drive Shiraz 2012 and Cabernet 2012 Padthaway, SA – two great value wines, both class acts at $17.50 a bottle.
Crossroads Winemakers Selection Hawkes Bay Gimblett Gravels Syrah 2012 – elegant, white pepper, fine grain tannins, exceptionally good.
Hunters Marlborough Chardonnay 2013 – wonderful, and for the price neigh on unbelievable.
Pauletts Riesling 2013, Clare Valley SA – a super example of this variety from one of the Clare’s stalwarts.
Matakana Sauvignon Blanc 2013 – a new Kiwi arrival from a very old winery great value @ $16.99.
Storm Ridge Pinot Noir 2012 and Pinot Gris 2013 – you will not find Yarra Valley wines of this quality for the price anywhere else.
Tahbilk museum release Marsanne 2007, super wine, showing just how well this wine cellars, lovely drinking with many a year left in the tank.
Tahbilk Cabernet Sauvignon 2007, superb drinking that got better and better the longer the it breathed.
The tasters hits were the Pauletts Riesling, Tahbilk Marsanne, and the two Central Victorian reds.
