The wine tasting wash up

30 May 2013
Our tasting on Tuesday evening the 28/05 was a great success.

At a wonderful venue, the Menzies Foundation in East Melbourne a stunning range of wines was sampled and we had some tasty food to accompany the range of great wines.

Tasters were greeted with a glass of Simonnet-Febvre Cremant Brut NV, a knockout Methode Champenoise, followed by their Chablis 2010, a super wine.

Then the following wines were sampled.
From Austria Loimer Gruner Veltliner 2011.
Two wines from Larry Cherubino’s Ad Hoc range the Wallflower Riesling 2012 and the Cruel Mistress Pinot Noir 2012.
Two Italians from Masciarelli their Trebbiano 2011 and Montepulciano D’Abruzzo 2010.
A South OZ Shiraz the Barossa Muster Lucky 2011.
And from Craggy Range New Zealand the super Sophia 2010, Te Muna Road  Pinot Noir 2011 and the Avery Sauvignon Blanc 2011.

The highlight of the night was the Craggy Sophia Bordeaux blend, by far the most expensive wine in the line up and it oozes class.

As for the rest of field, all were very well received by the tasters and orders were very evenly divided between the wines.
Many had not tried a Gruner Veltliner before and thought the wine terrific.
And there were lots of comments about what amazingly value @ $22 the Ad Hoc Cruel Mistress Pinot is and I must say I agree, I do not think there is a better value OZ pinot available at the moment.

Thanks to all our ‘family’ of tasters for making the evening so very enjoyable.

Our next tasting is coming up at the end of July and Xmas in July is our theme, I will post date and time shortly.

Regards, Michael @ WineSeek
