A stupendous dinner party, the wines

12 January 2012

A stupendous dinner party, the top wines.

Following on from my last post prior to Xmas here are the pick of the wines from the dinner party I cooked for.

The top six listed in order were the Yeringberg 1986 Cabernet, Louis Chadais Corton Languettes Burgundy 1986, Robert Mathais Puligny Montrechet 1990, Penfolds Grange 1986, and finally the 1984 Hardy’s Beerenauslese. These were all awesome wines but the Yeringberg was out of this world, it displayed gorgeous fruit on the nose and palate and amazing depth of flavour.

There were a couple of disappointments due to cork taint, the Grange 1979 in particular.

A couple of the wines were “over the hill” and a couple were disappointing as we thought they would be better drinking than they were - the 1997 Tatachilla Shiraz and the 1985 Voyager Cabernets.

Then there were a few of the wines that were real surprises, the 2009 Laporte Sancerre was lovely drinking and though a bit of a pup the 1998 Chamry Per & Co Gevrey Chamertain was lovely with huge potential.

All in all a great experience, good food, great wine and fabulous company.

Cheers for now Michael @ wineseek
